Though Sharp is the leading producer of solar energy cells in the world, it has only recently begun to raise its profile in the category. Working with the client, Stanton Crenshaw set out to raise awareness of Sharp’s overall position as the market leader through its solar charity “build” to benefit the residents of New Orleans. Dubbed “SOLA’ in NOLA,” the intitiative brought together local organizations and businesses to donate solar systems to a deserving neighborhood as an example of the role of solar power in the community’s efforts to rebuild. Members of Sharp’s nationwide customer network gave their time and expertise to install a 1.5-kilowatt system on nine homes and a community center in the Holy Cross neighborhood in the Lower Ninth Ward.
Stanton Crenshaw leveraged Sharp’s role in the build and its status as educator on the benefits of solar energy by arranging for key local and trade media to accompany Sharp during the build to observe and document the installations firsthand. In addition to significant attention from the embedded press, and a 30-minute podcast on the build, our outreach generated coverage by The Advocate, “Home Talk USA Radio,” NewOrleansCityBusiness.com, Times Picayune, Tulane University Online News and WDSU-TV.
