CHICAGO, April 11, 2008 – Sharp is showcasing its unique SuperSteam™ Convection cooking technology at the 2008 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show. SuperSteam Convection cooks a wide variety of foods without the addition of oils or sauces while preserving taste and appearance, making it deliciously easy for consumers to improve their eating habits. This technology will be featured in Sharp’s second generation of SuperSteam ovens, available in late 2008, which combine four healthy cooking methods – SuperSteam Convection, Convection, Conventional Steam and Microwave—all in a single appliance. It is the latest innovation in Sharp’s longstanding history of cooking expertise that includes the Carousel® turntable and the patented Microwave Drawer® oven.
“Today’s consumers are conscious of health and wellness and are actively making choices for a healthier lifestyle – eating healthier, increasing physical activity and lowering health risks,” said Christine Lewis, associate vice president of appliance marketing, Sharp Electronics Corporation. “Steam cooking is one of the healthiest ways to cook and combining it with convection heat offers delicious results that are prepared in the healthiest way possible. Sharp’s SuperSteam technology is the perfect complement to an overall fit lifestyle.”
With Sharp’s SuperSteam technology, steam is superheated to approximately 570 degrees Fahrenheit and combined with a True European convection heating system to ensure optimal cooking results. The addition of superheated steam allows foods to brown and crisp while also retaining moisture and nutrients for juicy, flavorful results without increasing fat and calories from added oils or sauces.
Sharp has developed dozens of food programs with automatic settings that determine time, temperature and the optimal combination of superheated steam and convection heat, convection, steam or microwave energy to cook a variety of popular foods. With the pre-programmed settings, consumers can choose the best cooking method for their favorite foods, including bone-in and boneless turkey breast, bone-in pork chops, pork tenderloin and baked sweet potatoes. The unique “Balanced Meals” function uses SuperSteam Convection to cook pre-programmed healthy meals for two, so that an entrée and two side dishes – such as mango chicken with vegetables, beef kabobs and corn-on-the-cob or fajitas – can be cooked simultaneously in the oven for time-saving and convenience. In addition, Sharp has created a SuperSteam cookbook that includes healthy recipes, cooking tips and nutrition information to encourage healthier cooking and eating.
